large numbers of locusts/grasshoppers on the wing. When we got to destination found this was a way to find if European Wasps are about. They were soon furiously harvesting the bodies from the car.

MAYBE ?? the wing pattern on these added crops hint at an ID? Sorry it was a poor quality (low pixel count) camera. My failure to adequately document the grasshoppers surprises me. I think, in ignorance, I thought back then only 1 type of grasshopper formed plagues.

So it was Chortoicetes terminifera rather than Austroicetes cruciata
