Understanding which species occur within a bioregion and eliminating those which do not match with habitat and morphology is a good means at arriving to species level. X. glauca angustifolia and X. resinosa are the only other candidates in this area, neither of which resemble this specimen.

The untidy subterranean branching with multiple crowns is more consistent with X. concava than with the affiliated species X. resinosa.

The subterranean branched specimen with at least two visible crowns in the background does not appear to appear consistent with X. australis.

This specimen is too immature to be attributed to species level. The cross-section leaf profile shape expected of a species will not yet have been produce on a plant of this size and age, therefore it will be almost impossible to determine the species for a plant of this age, even for an expert in Xanthorrhoea, unless there were identifiable adult plants nearby.
